12 Windows Programs and Apps You Should Uninstall

Want to know which Windows 10 apps to remove? Here are some of the unnecessary Windows 10 apps, programs, and software that you need to remove.

How many programs on your computer do you use regularly? Most people support a lot of software that doesn't need to be installed on their system. While some of these applications are outdated, others are Windows software, malware, or other junk that you can remove from your computer.

Here are some commonly used unnecessary apps for Windows 10 that you need to uninstall.

How to check programs installed on Windows 10?

It's easy to see the programs installed on your system in Windows 10. Go to Settings and go to Applications> Applications.

In Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, you can click the Start button and search for programs and features. This will open a similar list where you can see everything currently installed on your system.

To remove any piece of software, just click to highlight it and select Uninstall. Depending on the software, the installation may take place immediately or you may have to go through several dialogue boxes. Please see our Windows 10 Uninstall Guide for more information.

Now let's see what applications to uninstall on Windows - delete them all from below if they are on your system!

1. QuickTime

QuickTime is Apple's video player. While macOS is still up to date, the company doesn't support the 2016 version of Windows.

Shortly after Apple announced the withdrawal of QuickTime for Windows, Trend Micro announced that the software had several critical security vulnerabilities. Since Apple will never fix it, QuickTime is no longer safe to install.
Removing QuickTime shouldn't cause a distraction because iTunes doesn't depend on it. If you need a replacement for QuickTime, use VLC, which can play almost anything.

2. CCleaner

CCleaner was once a trusted Windows trash removal application, but its reputation has dwindled since it was acquired by Avast. Problems include unauthorized forced updates, re-enabled data collection, and the software itself accidentally distributing malicious software.

When we looked at CCleaner in 2020, we found that it had cleaned up its act but was still largely unnecessary. You'll find suitable cleaning tools elsewhere, including those built into Windows itself. Follow our step-by-step guide to cleaning your PC and you can say goodbye to CCleaner.

3. Crappy PC Cleaners

A lot of people have installed (or accidentally installed) a computer cleaning application at one point or another. Most of these products range from useless to dangerous because registry cleaners don't improve Windows performance at all. If you find junk like My CleanPC or PC Optimizer Pro in the list of installed applications, you have to remove it.

Read our cleaning guide mentioned above for the correct cleaning method. If your computer feels slow, try a few ways to speed up Windows.

4. uTorrent

UTorrent was once considered the gold standard for torrent software. However, there have been many problems over the years which now make it unreliable.

Apart from the advertisements crammed into the user interface, uTorrent also has offers for other software, which are annoying. The most serious breach occurred in 201 when the application was found to be bundled into cryptocurrency mining software without notifying the user. This is a waste of background system resources to generate money for companies that claim to have donated to charity.

There's no need to deal with uTorrent now. We believe that Bittorrent is the best torrent client because it is free of all this nonsense.

5. Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave Player

Adobe Flash Player will no longer be supported starting January 2021. Even though it is now blocked in all modern browsers, you will still need to delete the local copy of Flash. This will protect you from future security issues as Adobe will no longer be updating them.

A similar performance plugin, Adobe Shockwave Player, was discontinued in 2019. The company no longer offers it for download and it is highly unlikely that you will find a website that requires it.

In this way, you need to uninstall Shockwave Player and Flash Player. Both are relics of the past and are not needed today.

6. Java

Another medium for running media, Java consists of two components: Java on the desktop and the Java browser plug-in (which is known to have security issues). Although it used to be widely used, very few websites use it today. At the time of writing, W3Techs indicates that less than 0.02% of websites are using Java.

Modern versions of Chrome and Firefox don't support this, which means Java is less of a security issue than it was before. Unless you are an Android developer or using specialized Java-based software, you will need to uninstall it. You may never see the difference.

7. Microsoft Silverlight

Silverlight is a web framework, similar to Adobe Flash, that enables multimedia content in your browser. Years ago this add-on was needed on many websites. But now they have been withdrawn and are no longer of use. Looking back at W3Techs, we find that less than 0.03 per cent of websites have used Silverlight since the start of 2021.

Modern browsers don't even work with Silverlight. Chrome and Firefox didn't support it for years and were never compatible with Edge. Silverlight is only officially supported in Internet Explorer, which for compatibility reasons is only part of Windows 10. You won't lose anything after uninstalling Silverlight.

8. All Toolbars and Junk Browser Extensions

If you're wondering what to remove on Windows 10, one of the obvious candidates is junk in your browser. While toolbars were once a much more common problem, modern versions of Chrome and other browsers have thankfully responded and largely eliminated them. However, spam extensions are still wild.

See your program list for toolbars like Bing Bar, Google Toolbar, Ask Toolbar, Yahoo! Toolbar or Babylon Toolbar. If you find one of them, uninstall it. Then check the add-ons or extensions installed in your browser. Make sure you look and see everything there, as reliable extensions can also be sold to shady companies.

9. Coupon Printer for Windows

Coupon Printer for Windows is used to enable access to deals from Coupons.com. Since this software is usually included in other programs, you may not want to install it first.

If you use Coupons.com regularly, you can leave it installed to access discounts. Everyone should uninstall this program and use a different coupon site that doesn't require anything to install.

10. Manufacturer Bloatware

If you're not using a premium device like the Surface Pro, or you've installed Windows from scratch on a new desktop, your computer may have received a lot of preinstalled junk from the manufacturer. HP, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo and other laptops are affected by this issue.

Think about unnecessary programs that you need to remove because none of them is necessary for Windows to work. Some branded pre-installed programs like photo applications, game tools, or something that duplicates Windows utilities are completely unnecessary. Others, such as B. BIOS driver/utility updates (e.g. Lenovo System Update) should be helped.

Of course, we can't comment specifically on every piece of manufacturer software. To find out about what you should delete from your system, it's a good idea to check out Should I Remove It? which gives an overview of what each program does and how others have rated it.

When in doubt, anything from the manufacturer is probably not necessary. But it's always good to double-check.

11. Windows 10 Bloatware

Forcing manufacturer software to be removed is annoying enough, but Microsoft includes a lot of its own content in Windows 10. It takes the form of a store app. Fortunately, you can remove most of these unnecessary programs with minimal effort.

Some standard modern apps like Xbox and Weather are useful for some users but not for others. Others, like Candy Crush Saga, are trash that you need to get rid of. For a complete list of Windows 10 blower software, see Bloatware Removal Guide for Windows 10. It will tell you how to uninstall these apps (one by one or all at once).

12. WinRAR

While having file extracting and compressing tools is certainly useful, WinRAR isn't the best choice for the job. The app is brightened up a little thanks to the old shareware license. You can download a free "trial period" from WinRAR, which you will have to pay after a long period of use. However, the app never blocks you even if you don't pay, so you can use it indefinitely.

However, there is no reason to use WinRAR. 7-Zip is a free and easy tool that meets the needs of most people. If you think 7-Zip is too bad, try another file extraction tool. But whatever you do, don't pay for WinRAR.

Uninstall These Programs From Windows 10

The above program is unnecessary because it no longer performs any useful functions. If you uninstall something and then find that you need it again, you can always reinstall it. Make sure you install without trash bags when doing this.

It's always a good idea to clean up your system a bit and uninstall old or unnecessary Windows 10 programs. You can go even further and delete unneeded Windows folders.
